Adventure 3: The Piano Works

#JOESLONDONBUCKETLIST: 30 Adventures Before 30

I’m Joe – and I’ve challenged myself to complete 30 of the 50 activities in my book The London Bucket List before my 30th birthday. The challenge was set exactly 30 weeks before my birthday on 1 October. You can read about all of the activities I’ve completed so far here. You can download an electronic version of The London Bucket List at the bottom of this post – or buy the paperback here.

What is The Piano Works?

The Piano Works is London’s only non-stop live music venue.

Write a song request on a napkin and the pianists will do their best to perform it for you.

They tore the roof off with both of my requests from the world of r&b/hip-hop. Check it out.

Shout out to fellow dating blogger Fauna Solomon who I took to the venue.

She was desperate to hear something from the musical Hamilton. The first band ignored it (fair play to them, it’s pretty niche). Rather than request something more mainstream, she requested Hamilton AGAIN, this time with a tip.

I tried to explain that hardly anyone in England has heard of Hamilton. It’s doesn’t arrive in London until November.

No matter. She put in two more requests for Hamilton with two more tips.

Ultimately, the pianist in the second band said he was the only member who’d heard of it. But he smashed that song out the park. See below.

The fact that other band members chimed in despite having never heard the song shows how talented they are.

Also, a fantastic lesson in persistence from Fauna. I love a woman who knows what she wants ;).

Is it a good date venue?

One of the best I’ve seen in London. If you’re one of those annoying couples who has ‘our song’, come along, ask for it and have a ridiculously romantic time. That’s wedding proposal material right there…

The food was fantastic. The bar staff were brilliant. The music was beautiful. Book your table today.
